Senior UK Liberal-Democrat fired after suggestions Israelis have been harvesting bodily organs in Haiti
In a rare piece of good news from the UK, Baroness Tonge has been dismissed as spokesperson for the Liberal Democrat Party in the House of Lords after suggesting that Israel should investigate claims that members of its relief team in Haiti had been harvesting bodily organs and selling them on the black market.
Tonge has a sordid record of anti-Israel extremism. In 2004, she even went on record as saying she might have become a suicide bomber had she been born a Palestinian.
In her latest outburst, she associated herself with a medieval-style blood libel which was started last year by Sweden’s top selling newspaper Aftonbladet. The paper claimed that Israeli soldiers were murdering Palestinian children in order to harvest their bodily organs and sell them on the black market, possibly in conjunction with Jews in the United States. After Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt refused to distance his country from the story it spread like wildfire across the Muslim world and beyond.
Bildt, a favourite among the European governing classes, remains unrepentant and the story continues to resurface.
Tonge was fired by Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg who said her remarks were ”wrong, distasteful and provocative”. It is not yet clear whether she will be thrown out of the Liberal Democrat Party altogether, though that is thought to be unlikely.
Israel’s relief operation in Haiti has been widely praised as exceptional, which is why anti-Israeli activists and fellow travellers have been at pains to find ways of discrediting it.

Sadly just sacking her from her front bench position is not enough
He needs to withdraw the whip and we need to see a public apology, not just Nick Clegg telling us she has apolgised which is meaningless.
A leopard does not change its spots, and this is not the last from Tonge. she delights in appearing on Palestine solidarity platforms and of course she now has the added status of being martyred for her virulently anti Israel views.
It was an outrage she was elevated to the Lords after she had been disciplined for her suicide bomber remarks.

It is to the eternal shame of the Lib Dems and Nick Clegg that this woman was not sacked many years ago.
You can be as anti-semitic as you like in this country, so long as you dont make it too obvious.

Tonge’s continued membership of the LibDems is shameful. They should’ve removed the whip after her disgusting comments about “understanding” suicide bombers years ago. It is clear she has a fixation about Israel and Jews, an obsession in fact. Remove her from the Lords!

In 2006, when Tonge claimed that Israel was controlling the LibDems, Ming Campbell said “I have written to Baroness Tonge dissociating myself and the party from her deeply offensive remarks and what I believe to be their clear anti-Semitic connotations.”
He clearly knew her for what she was.

I believe that Nick Clegg only acted late Friday after pressure from South West London LibDem MPS who had received a huge number of e mails from their constituents, myself included, complaining about Tonge’s latest outburst. She should have been kicked out of the party after her “suicide bomber” remarks in 2004. Instead Charles Kennedy elevated her to the House of Lords in 2005 where she is not accountable to any constituents and has a job for life. So unless the leadership has the guts to throw her out now, sadly there will be recurrances of her anti-Semitic vitriol, expressed with the weight & authority of a LibDem Baroness in the future.

Not too long ago I read this piece on Honest Reporting about George Galloway’s associating himself with the same theme. It’s a distortion of a true scandal in which Galloway manages create and leave leave behind a bad odour that serves his own political ends, much like what Tonge is trying to do and of course propogating the lie. Here he accuses Israel of “playing mini-Mengele”. What a lovely chap!

Sometime this year some moron will stand up in Lords and demand the expulsion of all Jews and the response will be ‘let’s have a reasoned debate about that.’

Empress Trudy - Yes, I believe you are, by and large, right. There are traitors in every country (in my country, the traitors are the Neo-Nazi far-right currently on the ascendence). Tongue took part in a pro-Palestinian event in London together with a Muslim Council of Britain jihadist supremo AND a Hungarian racist neo-Nazi party chief (a woman). I thnk there are times (a lot more han one would otherwise think) when guilt by association stands on its own two feet. Lt’s not forget in the meantme - as I long suspect - that the Independent daily paper is the mouthpiece of the LibDems and their ideological base. I also think that the newspaper - together with the Guardian - is the anti-Semitic face (and primary force in the writte press) of the United Kingdom.

The coservative-leaning Bruce Anderson wrote a reasonble pice on the torture issue. You wouldn’t want to believe what he got for this. I say again, if you couldn’t see with our own eyes you wouln’t believe it. The most fascinatig factor in all of this that readers often from God-forsaken rural regions stomp their tiny feet in abusing Anderson and in some cases, demand hat his article should r have been published. I am convinced that these people are not just insane but extremely hypocritical too. While of course here are re than afair share of lunatics in the big cities who agree and support their positions from a far-left ideological angle,you can’t escape the profound iony where they live. Let’s see: Ely (Cambridgeshire - btw, I was there 13 years ago, it has a great Cathedral); Oxford; Edinburgh; Bridgewater (Somerset); Wantage (Oxfordshire); Slapton (Devon); Bologna (Italy)(sic!); York; Frampton Cotterell (South Gloucestershire). Do you wannbet what chance these locations will be suicide(or otherwise)-bombed in any case? I think these people could not care AT ALL, a bit, if, say, 70, 700 or, asily, 7000 of their ellow citizens (incl. the - in other cases - ever hyped women and children) DED the most horrible way imaginable. Once you realize this, digest this as a fact one cn see two thngs. 1. These people are not only insane and totally out of touch with the most elementary (logic of) human self-preservation instincts. They are possibly couldn’t care less if their very own country went under, and Islam’s pagan “Moon God” symbol would replace the crosses on th Union Jack. An additional argument
(Sorry for any inconvenienece caused by my horrible computer, it leaves out letters all the time.)
A few years ago a very wealthy businessman’s 16 year old son was kidnapped in Frankfurt, Germany. One member of the gang was successfully arrested (though I don’t remmber all the setails, just the validity - of this horrible case), while the others were not found yet. The gangsters set a deadline until the famiy had to pay the ransom. In the meantime the arreed person wouldn’t tell a single word. In Germany not olny torture, but even the threat of torture is illegal. Well after the “deadline” the Police found the boy in the forests around Frankfurt. There was a nationwide debate of course, but then everything got back into groove after a while. The public was however shocked by this case. You decide, “aesthetics” as Bruce Anderson referred to, or the lives of your, let’s be quite precise here friends, MOTHER, FATHER, SISTER(S), BROTHER(S) OR PERHAPS YUR VERY BEST FRIENDS OR “JUST” A KIND COLLEAGUE OF YOURS. YOU decide: the Bullshit (Sorry) or these people I just mentioned. I know what and who I’d choose.

A “consciencous objector” on the letters pages of the Independent. Could it be that the fact this reasonable - and thinking - human being lives in Machester (the 2nd or 3rd most Islamist-terror threatened city in the UK beside London, Birmingham and/or Glasgow) has something to do with it?
“I never thought I would find myself having even a grain of sympathy for Bruce Anderson, whose politics are about as far away from mine as you can get, until I saw the tsunami of self-righteous moral posturing in your letters columns over his article on torture.
Anderson goes over the top, as is his wont. However, the question “What would you do if you could save hundreds of lives by using information obtained under torture?” remains unanswered by your preening correspondents.
Would your correspondents resolve the dilemma of using information obtained under torture by telling themselves that the information must be inaccurate because it was so obtained, or let hundreds die and claim that they couldn’t have used the information because it violated their personal moral code.
Ethical dilemmas of this sort are difficult. They won’t be resolved by knee-jerk reactions from liberals who want to feel good about themselves.
